The three-time AFCON kings campaign in Cameroon came to an end after a disappointing loss to the North Africans  Nigeria’s Super Eagles were dumped out of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon after a 1-0 loss to the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia. The Super Eagles were big favourites to progress to the quarterfinals because of their form, and the Covid-19 issues with the Tunisians. Prior to the fixture, the Carthage Eagles had lost two of their matches in the group stage, while Nigeria had a 100% record. However, form was thrown out the window as the Tunisians reigned supreme. A second-half effort from Youssef Msakni, and a poor red card to Alex Iwobi changed the complexion of the game. Nigeria President Muhammadu Buhari had a video call with the team before the game, and many Nigerians bantered that the President was responsible for the loss.
