As part of efforts to assist youths promote reading culture and literacy in Nigerian schools, a non -governmental organisation, 3Rs has embarked on a one-day workshop for school children.

Convener 3Rs advocates, Mrs. lsoken Onoyona-Ekeocha, while addressing 100 students of Ruby Gold British Schools in Lekki, Lagos, urged the government to pay more attention to empowering youths.

She observed that there are many jobless youth roaming the streets, while others engage in crime and nefarious acts, stressing that there is need to assist youths channel their energies to positive activities.

She also advised parents to spend quality time with their children while making money, saying there is need for parents to guide their wards on self-discovery and focus on humanitarian coursework.

A youth coach, Mrs. Tochi Charity Abiodun, taught the students how to boost body image and self-esteem. She urged them to feel good about themselves regardless of size, height, or complexion, and never bully or body shame others.

An entrepreneur and Director, Solar mate Engineering, Dotun Tokun, encouraged the students on how to understand themselves and handle personal and societal challenges.

According to him, most professionals and people are leaving the country for greener pastures or travelled abroad for studies, which has resulted in brain drain.

He advised them to look inwards, solve problems around their environments, schools, and the country at large.

Tokun charged them to be responsible citizens and promote national development.

The Head Teacher, Ruby Gold British Schools, Mrs Rita Wogu, lauded the foundation for empowering the students.

While receiving the donations, Wogu appreciated the team for promoting the reading culture and enriching the school library.

An elated male student, Bolaji Oretan expressed gratitude to the group’ for the kind gesture.
