The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) has urged students to focus on manufacturing and things that can guarantee multiple flows of income.

The association said with the current economic challenges, graduates who desire to survive should not sit and wait for ‘white collar jobs’.

The Chairman, Rivers and Bayelsa chapters of the association, Adawari Pepple, who stated this at the graduation ceremony of Showers Christian High School, Port Harcourt, said though manufacturing is gradual and demanding, it is the heart of any growing economy and a proven process for achieving economic development.

He said: “Young graduands should focus on manufacturing, they will not regret it. Don’t go for white collar jobs because the salaries cannot even pay your house rent. it is good to do things that will bring multiple flow of income.

“The demand for manufactured goods continues to increase globally with population growth. Research has shown that as economies mature, the role of manufacturing evolves, and its impact on the economy changes.”

The MAN chief said for developing countries to transit to the class of developed nations, they must create robust manufacturing sector, which would lead to employment creation, human capital development, better wages, increased productivity and provide foundation for sustainable economic growth.

Managing Director of the school, Mrs Emilia Akpan, said if young graduates must survive and contain the ever-rising cost of things, they must be taught how to use their hands to do things.

She however, noted that it is not easy to offer the best quality education in the country at the moment and appealed to government to assist in giving citizens the best standard education. 

Akpan said: “Government should help out Look at Canada, with one of the best university systems, they push their best five graduating students to teaching. Students must be taught hands-on things if we must survive and contain the ever-rising cost of things.

Manager, Community Affairs, Project Development, Total energies, Ikechukwu Obara, said there are verse opportunities for young people who are encouraged in their studies.
