Minister of State for education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, has underscored the importance of engaging youths in technical vocation, as he expressed satisfaction with the kind of investment the Lagos State government is making in this regard.
Nwajiuba, who spoke during a visit to two federal colleges, namely, Federal Science and Technical College, Yaba, and Government Technical College, Agidingbi, where candidates were undergoing National Business Certificate and National Technical Certificate Examination, assured of government’s commitment to providing adequate security for all students across the states.
The minister, who was accompanied by the Registrar/Chief Executive of National Business and Technical Examination Board (NABTEB), Prof. Ifeoma Mercy Isiugo-Abanihe, restated that it is the responsibility of the government to ensure maximum security at all locations.
He said: “Security is an environmental issue and as long as the environment is not safe, there is no school, hospital, church, or mosque that is safe. The idea behind the safe school initiative is to secure the schools, and we can assure you that those measures are in place.
“The challenges we are facing in the area of security are being confronted by the armed forces, police and Nigeria intelligence services,” he said.
He said examination would still remain physical, though the government is gradually moving to online platforms.
Prof Isiugo-Abanihe expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the examination.
Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Education, Mrs. Abosede Adelaja, said education remains a top priority for the state government.
Executive Secretary, Lagos State Technical and Vocational Education Board, Mrs. Moronke Azeez, said vocational education has been given top priority in the state. Azeez said the state has created a trust fund to provide grants to those who want to go into entrepreneurship.
